Freelance Whales – Hannah (Lightwaves Remix) by lightwavesmusic
It’s no secret I’m a HUGE fan of freelance whales. I’m ecstatic they are hosting a remix competition at indaba and I can’t wait to see comes out of it! (Maybe I’ll even take a stab at a remix). But this one has caught my attention out of the rest so far – it’s like a completely new take on the track. I love it! High Five!
What can I really say about this album? I’ve had it for over 6 months and to this moment I still listen to tracks from the album. I was instantly in love with this band the moment I first heard them. They were the postal service meets folk album I’ve always been waiting for. Unlike many of the artists on this list, I have actually seen them perform live as well. I can tell you that they have a great live presence and are on their way to doing bigger things in their music career. You can tell that they love the music they play and they switch instruments every song like it was no big deal.
By far, maybe even more so that my top album pick of 2010, this is probably the most catchy album I’ve heard in 2010. I want to sing along to every track I hear in the album, even though I may not keep up with the speedy singing in “Hannah”. I’m excited to what new material Freelance Whales will bring to us in 2011.

So, the 2 readers or so of this blog is probably wondering “Why was there no post yesterday??”. Yea I dropped the ball, but yesterday was blazing hot and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to take advantage of it.
As soon as work ended, I was in my car with the windows rolled down and the sunroof rolled back. I turned my music loud and suddenly some songs were hitting the right spots. They had that perfect sound for the summer heat. I could have literally driven for hours along the coast and not care about a single thing. Who could ask for a better summer day? So, now I present to you some of the songs that are great to pump in your car with the summer humid wind flowing around.

When this song came up, I just wanted to lay off the gas pedal and enjoy the scenery that was blasting by me.

How can you not like the genius use of percussion in this song? It also helps that this song is crazy fun to sing along to.

Everything about this track just sends off that happy vibe.

Arguably, one of the best builds in a rock song.
Above & Beyond and Kyau & Albert – Anphonic (Arty Mix)
Above & Beyond vs. Kyau & Albert – Anphonic (Arty Remix) by Radio1 Dance blog v4
You know I had to include some trance in here. By far, one of my top ten trance songs for 2010 — and has a great summer vibe to it.
Duderstadt – Stranded in NYC
Another recent trance song that hit the summer chords. Love it.
High Five to all these great musicians for make my summer beach run so nice!
Gilbere Forte’ feat. Freelance Whales – 1st Floor by gilbereforte
Anyone who has ridden in my car this past weekend will know that I’m completely obsessed with Freelance Whales. It is like the follow-up Postal Service album we never got — but still unique at the same time. In complete joy I’ve found a hip hop-ized version of the song. I’m loving when indie artists get this treatment and I’m told this was produced by a member of Passion Pit…awesome! High Five!
